행동강령 사악해지지 말자 삭제한 구글
Don't Be Evil(사악해지지 말자)는 2000년 구글의 개발자들이 회의에서 제안했던 구글의 모토로 단기 이익위한 행동보다는 사용자들이 만족하며, 윤리적으로 문제가 없는 회사를 만들어 가자는 의지를 담고 있습니다.
구글 경영진과 직원들은 이 의지를 구글직원들이 준수해야 하는 행동강령(Google Code of Conduct)의 서문에 담아 가치를 지키고자 했습니다.

하지만 이 가치가 훼손 된건(?) 2015년 8월 10일 구글의 모회사인 알파벳이 설립되면서 입니다. 알파벳은 알파벳 A부터 Z까지 구글과 같은 회사를 모두 채워넣겠다는 목표로 설립됐습니다.
알파벳 또한 구글처럼 행동강령을 발표했는데, 이 회사의 모토는 구글의 "사악해지지 말자"와는 조금 다른 "Do the right thing(옳은 일을 하자)", "Imagine the unimaginable(상상할 수 없는 것을 상상하자)"로 바뀌었습니다.

사악해지지 말자 보다 조금 톤이 다운된 "옳은 일을하자"라는 표현을 사용한 것을 알 수 있는데요. 구글의 영향력이 점점커지고 광범위해 지면서 이 가치를 지키기 어려워졌을까요? 최근 구글까지 행동강령에서 'Don't Be Evil' 문구를 삭제했다고 합니다.
구글은 자신들의 행동강령이 수정된 것에 대한 발표나 보도를 하지 않고 조용히 문구를 수정한 것으로 밝혀졌습니다.

이에 대해 사람들은 실망감을 감추지 못했는데요. Google이 행동강령에서 해당 문구를 삭제한 것이 최근 국방부에 AI 기술을 제공하는데 반대해 직원들이 퇴사하고 4,000여명이 항의성명을 발표한 이후에 알려지면서 네티즌들은 더욱 실망하게 된 것 같습니다.

일부는 드디어 구글이 스카이넷이 되겠다고 선언한것이 아니냐? 하는 우려를 나타내기도 했는데요.
한가지 다행인 소식은 Google 행동강령의 제일 마지막에는 아직 "And remember… don’t be evil, and if you see something that you think isn’t right – speak up" 문구가 남아 있다는 사실입니다.
사람들은 몇년후엔 저 마지만 문구도 삭제되는 것이 아닐까? 하는 의문도 제기했는데요. 저 문구가 'Remeber... Google is skynet.' 이라고 바뀌지 않았으면 하는 바램입니다. ^^
